北極海で任務にあたる合衆国海軍駆逐艦ネイサン・ジェームズ。そこには、未知のウイルスの始原株を探すべく、２人の民間のウイルス学者が乗船していた。4か月間の特殊任務を無事に終え本国へ帰還しようとした矢先、海に出ている4か月の間に人類の80％以上が謎の伝染病で死亡していることが判明。政府も何もかも崩壊寸前で、人類が壊滅の危機に瀕しているという恐ろしいニュースが飛び込んでくる。人類に残された頼みの綱は、ウイルスから隔絶された世界にいた216人の戦艦の乗組員たちのみ。アメリカ政府関係者の命令によって一同は帰路に就く。だが彼らは、祖国が出発前とは全く変わってしまったこと、最も安全な場所で致死性ウイルスの治療薬を開発するためには、駆逐艦に乗って海で行うしかないということに気づく。果たして人類の運命は！？

NO SPOILERS: The premise of the show definitely sounds intriguing, made me start it, and is enough to keep the first season interesting. Its good and “honest” entertainment, meaning that you should not expect anything super original or intelligent but the characters are well-defined and well-motivated and the episode plots are well-crafted and mostly make sense. Most shows don’t even reach this level.
Unfortunately from the second season onward, the number of contrivances increases dramatically just so that the show can continue to happen and after being disappointed by the second season and fast forwarding through the third, I only read summaries and watched key scenes of the rest. My recommendation is to watch the first season, maybe the second, too, if you really like the scenario and then just ignore the cliffhanger at the end of a season and accept that the plot has ended there. In my opinion, you don’t miss out on anything past the first season.
